The Martin pre-war 00-21 is a classic guitar -- 12-fret slothead with light bracing and construction. In the 1960s, a variant of the 00-21 was marketed as the New York Martin -- without a pickguard, and with even a little lighter construction.
The back and sides on this guitar are Palo Escrito (dalbergia palo escrito), a true rosewood from Mexico. The top is Engelmann spruce. The bolt-on neck is one-piece mahogany, with ebony fingerboard. The pyramid bridge is also made from ebony. The nut and saddle are bone. Following pre-war Style 21, it has faux tortoise binding, but it has wood instead of plastic purfling; the herringbone rosette and backstrip are wood. This guitar is finished with water-borne lacquer.
